Some sites might have worked once, but not any more and that is when they put together the sales letter with testimonials written by their con artist friends so it sounds good.

That's why they are called con artists. They exude an aura of confidence that is designed to build trust and confidence. Once they build that trust, then it's easy to vacuum your hard-earned money right out of your wallet.

What about the money-back guarantee? The scammers depend on you not remembering or even asking for your money back. They count on it because most people do not ask for their money back. If everyone did, they would go out of business.

The Internet is the greatest scam-engine ever built. A veritable cesspool of spammers and scammers. So be carefull out there. Don't go near the cesspool.

The last time I Googled the get-rich-quick topic, I got almost 400,000,000 hits. I bet you get even more today. The cesspool has no bottom - the more poop you put in it, the deeper it goes.

One tool to evaluate the popularity of a Web site is Alexa, which is owned by Amazon (http://www.alexa.com). You enter a URL and it will show you where it stands based on 65,000,000 active websites - the keyword here is "active". Google and other search engines are in the low hundreds.

This site can be entered into Alexa.

However, some individual Web sites have an Alexa rank of 100,000 or less. These Web sites attract a lot of traffic. Even a Web site with an Alexa rank of 500,000 is still in the top 1% of all Web sites ranked by Alexa. Most Web sites come up with an Alexa rank of "no data" which means no traffic for that Web site. As far as the 'net is concerned, the Web site does not exist and is a waste of money.

But…

It may be a hobby site and the owner doesn't care if she makes money or not.

That's OK, but you know what happens, the little niche that she carved out for herself on the Internet doing something she really loved and was passionate about begins to attract like minded people and after several months, she comes to realize that with all the targeted traffic she's getting that maybe she could make some money, too. And have fun doing it. Because that's her passion.

Another test is your page rank in the Google search engine. It you have a Google page rank of 1, that is excellent and it means that when a certain keyword is entered in Google, that keyword will display the 10 best ranked Web sites for that keyword on page one of all the pages returned. There is even a Page Rank icon that Google supplies that is like a gauge of the Web sites popularity.

Your Alexa rank = "no data". That means your Web site is invisible and gets no traffic. No traffic = no income. Your Web site is a waste of money unless it's a hobby site where the owner doesn't care.

If Google, MSN, and Yahoo! have not indexed your Web site. They don't know you exist. You Web site will not show up in any searches.

It takes time for the search engines (SEs) to find you. It won't happen in 15 minutes or even 15 days.

First, you need to do some research on keywords and find out if there is a demand for your product or service. You need to find out if there is a huge demand for what you are selling and very little supply. Anyone of those places mentioned can create a Web site, but you need a Web site that works.

Keyword analysis finds out things like how popular your keywords are, how much that keyword is in demand, etc. You want to pick keywords that have huge demand, but very little supply; this is where the money is.

It’s the old demand vs. supply theory. Huge demand and little or no supply drive people to your Web site.

You may have a hobby like collecting stuff or you like to set up home theaters. Something you are passionate about. With passion, you can write lots of content on your favorite interest that will interest other people.

Here are some real site subjects:Cookie Kitchen, your own biz, small biz guide, home biz guide, remote control cars and trucks, gear for motorcycles, Tuscany villas for rent, Beaches in Anguilla, Poker, juggling, pregnancy guide, flat stomach, doggie quotations, women's health, puppy names, etc.

Most Web sites exist to sell something. They are one huge ad for whatever it is your selling. It could be hard goods or soft goods or even electronic books, sometimes called e-books. E-books are books you download online; One company that sells them is called ClickBank.

So, you must find a niche for your Web site. You need something to hook that surfer. Something unique. That's why you need a niche. None of those free Web sites will help you find a niche. They have no keyword analysis. They just have you pick a domain name, put up some pages, and that's it. People find your Web site via keywords. They are not looking for you or your Web site.

Like Kayak Rentals. This is a page from the boatyard. They enter Kayak Rentals into Google and Google finds all the Web sites with that keyword. If your Web site is popular, your Web site will be on the first page of Google. The boatyard Web site has one page ranked number one in Google. Did you find it?

How do you know which keywords will make money? There are keyword analyzers on the Internet. Most of the good ones cost money, not a lot but some. After all, you can't expect to start your own business without some investment, even if it's on a shoestring budget, can you?

I will be starting work on my next project soon. My dentist has decided he needs a Web site.
